Why a “Torah Community?”

Why a “Torah Community?”

Messianic Judaism is on its death bed thanks to the leaders of the UMJC (Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations).  These leaders decided to hijack the label and make it their own.

In their obsession to become a legitimate branch of Judaism, they are willing to take steps that are contrary to the written scriptures, steps such as distancing themselves from the Gentile believers in their communities.  They take the view that the Torah is only for the Jews and therefore discourage Gentiles in their congregation from embracing Torah lifestyle.

This is of course in direct opposition to scriptures.  Exod. 12:49; Numb. 15:16,29; Isaiah 56:4-5;  These passages tell us that the Torah should be the inheritance of Jew and Gentile alike.

We believe that Yeshua the Messiah is the goal of the Torah (Rom. 10:4; 2 Corinth. 3:15-16;).  Not only is Yeshua the goal of the Torah, he is the living Torah (John 1:1) our understanding of Messiah comes through the Torah.

At Kehilat Ben David, we cannot anymore identify ourselves as “Messianic Jews” in light of the gross misrepresentation of scriptures by the UMJC, hence the change to a “Torah Community.”

We believe that building a community is the primary goal to a successful congregation.  Helping families to stay strong, helping people in their struggle to discard sin will help a congregation grow to maturity.  The growth should manifest itself in the hearts and minds of our flock rather than in the pews.
